Background The West Africa Agricultural Productivity Program (WAAPP) initiated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member countries is part of the implementation of the agricultural sector of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and aims to support regional cooperation in agriculture in West Africa in accordance with the action plans for managers in the agricultural policy of ECOWAS and NEPAD. It receives financial support from the World Bank and sub-regional coordination of the program is provided by the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development in Africa (WECARD/CORAF).

CORAF/WECARD: Invitation electronic conference on seeds


The West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD) based in Dakar (Senegal) in partnership with Fondation Farm (France) is pleased to invite you to participate to the electronic conference on: ‘Seed sector in West and Central Africa’’.

The overall objective of this electronic conference is to contribute to the sustainable improvement of agricultural productivity from a shared diagnosis leading to strategic and innovative development actions in the seed sector in West and Central Africa. The event provides an opportunity for knowledge creation and experience and success stories sharing.

Given your commitment and dynamism on seed issues in West and Central Africa, you have been identified to participate to this online conference.

The e-forum will take place from March 14 to April 2016. It will be organized around three structural and complementary topics:

(i) What are the farmers’ demands of seeds and the responses of the seed sector?

(ii) How to improve the structure and effectiveness of seed markets to make them more attractive?

(iii) How to work together for the development of the seed sector in West and Central Africa?

Each topic will be debated for a week. A fourth week of exchanges will be opened for further analysis and suggestions for concrete actions.

Useful Information

The WAAPP Coordination Unit in Ghana is the Projects Division of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) whilst the implementing agency is the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The structures put in place to govern and manage the WAAPP in Ghana are the National Steering Committee as well as the NCOS Management Committee and the Competitive Agricultural Research Grant Scheme (CARGS) Board as the Implementing agency.
